Seasonal Maiden Voyage… CANCELED
Seasonal Maiden Voyage… CANCELED (4/20/25)
Well, this weekend was a non-adventure if there ever was one. 😅
All week, we were tracking the forecast — snow, freezing temps, and general chaos — but we were still pumped and ready to roll. We had a reservation at a super cute Hipcamp in Berthoud (complete with a camp pig 🐖), and we were determined to make it work. But then the hosts emailed and let us know we could back out due to the weather — apparently, the whole site was about to turn into a mud pit.
Ugh. Colorado weather, am I right?
Not to be deterred, we pivoted and switched our reservation to Boyd Lake State Park. Things were looking promising… until they weren’t. Friday morning rolled in with 28° and snow. ❄️ And let me just say, an RV with no working heat, plus two dogs who love the outdoors but attract mud like a balloon to static cling, made us wave the white flag and cancel. Which is too bad, because Saturday was dry and Sunday was absolutely gorgeous. Classic Colorado chaos, thank you for your service.
So, what do you do when your seasonal maiden voyage gets snowed out? You pivot again. We scheduled a few fun things (more on that below 👇), and we spent some time dreaming — ish.
Krissy and I have been planning this for a while now: the big RV trip. A multi-year adventure seeing the U.S., then heading abroad. And part of that dream means getting rid of all our belongings. This year’s goal? Let go of anything we won’t use more than 4–5 times between now and our planned departure in summer 2028. Therefore, we went room to room collecting, debating, and putting piles in our garage.
Not glamorous work, but it's satisfying. And… if you’re in Greeley May 2–3, come swing by our garage sale. We’ve got good deals and big “get it out of our house” energy.
In the meantime, here’s what FUN went down this weekend:
🎤 Do Tell: Weld County’s Version of a TED Talk
On Thursday night, we went to an event called Do Tell — basically a local TED Talk series here in Greeley. We were there to cheer on our friend’s son, who shared his story about navigating life with autism and how it inspired him to become an author. One of his books, Albert the Elephant, is available on Amazon (go buy it here!), and if you're a teacher, he even does school visits! There were five speakers total — another one of them was a friend of ours — and every story was powerful. Honestly, such a meaningful and fun night.
🌍 Snacks from Around the World
If you know us, you know that between trips, we try to scratch the adventure itch however we can. One of our favorite ways? Universal Yums. Last month’s box was from Colombia, and yes, we tried bacon and lime crackers (called La Niña) and turtle-shaped fruit gummies (Play Tortuga). The crackers were… interesting. The gummies? Pretty solid.
This month’s box came from the Netherlands. So far, we’ve tasted:
Paprika chips — light flavor, but I couldn’t eat just one.
Salted black licorice — shaped like animals and absolutely disgusting. (But I already hate black licorice, so that’s on me. Thank God for friends who’ll take one for the team.)
Gingerbread men — 10/10 would snack again.

🎲 Board Game Obsession: My Island
We’ve been on a legacy board game kick since 2018 — these are games that change as you play, episode by episode. It is fun because you essentially destroy the board as you add elements to the game! Past faves include Pandemic and My City. This year, we tackled My Island with our friends, and we just wrapped all 26 episodes on Saturday. Check the pic below to see if we loved it. And yes, Krissy won, because of course she did. Why is she always so lucky?! She wins games and she married me. 🥰
🎂 Family, Easter, and All the Feels
We also got to celebrate my dad’s birthday and Easter — my favorite holiday. It was just the older crowd this time (our son, niece, and nephew couldn’t make it home), which meant a different kind of vibe: good conversation, lots of laughs, and a few rounds of Five Crowns (great game for all ages, btw).
To top it all off, I heard an incredibly hopeful Easter sermon that gave me the spiritual refill I didn’t know I needed. If you’re looking for an online or in-person church, come and hang with us at First Congregational Church of Greeley UCC(they stream on YouTube, too).
Whether you’re off on a big adventure or just making magic at home, I hope you're well. I’ll be back soon with a garage sale update… wish us luck.
