Spring Cleaning, Camper Dreams & Game Nights: A Cozy Weekend at Home

Weekend of April 6, 2025

Early spring and late fall are different times around here. The weather is too unpredictable to go camping, and no long-distance trips are close enough to get excited about. So we spend our time dreaming and getting things done around the house.

I’ve started cleaning, both inside and out, to create a little oasis for us when we’re not traveling. Doug and Greta — our dogs — have made sure to bring in the dry, brown dead of winter, so a deep clean was needed to spruce it all up. I started ripping out the old perennial plant tops to reveal the green, vibrant leaves of bulbs pushing to the surface. Hope is all around us.

Krissy has been working diligently on Amazon reviews (you should check out her YouTube page, The Wicked Good World) so she can slow down during our travel and adventure times. She’s done such an amazing job and just hit 500 videos in 6 months. More importantly, she’s helped so many people — both here in Greeley and online — get accepted into the Amazon Influencer Program. She wants everyone to succeed and is so good at teaching.

We have to keep the adventurous spirit alive even in the mundane, so we do a few things to keep it going.

First, we make sure to spend time with friends. This weekend, we went to an old restaurant in town that, for some odd reason, we’ve never tried. It’s called The Country Inn — a good old diner with all the usual breakfast options. But the best part was the conversation and the laughs. If we’re not laughing, we’re not living.

Then, since it was snowing (RIP pickleball plans), we played a new game called Hues and Cues and watched half of the new pickleball documentary, Breaking Pickleball. It got us so excited for league play starting Thursday. Excitingly — and sadly — our first match is against each other.

Second, we started dreaming and thinking about getting the camper ready. What do we need to change, pack, clean... and most importantly: what’s our first food going to be? These camping trips over the next 3 years are our trial run for when we hit the road permanently. So every summer, we want to get better at having the right bedding, clothing, kitchen gear, and overall organization.

We’re working hard to organize the closet and kitchen, and to get rid of excess stuff. Space management is key. One thing we’re trying out this summer — which does take up space but might be worth it — is this countertop ice maker. We love having good ice, and the machine is quick and easy to use.

Third, we always make sure to get a few games in over the weekend. This time, we played a game of Canasta — and for once, I won. Krissy has been kicking my ass for way too long. A game of Canasta is even better with our favorite fancy card holders.

We also got a new game in the mail called Cross Crib. It’s based on Cribbage but with more strategy. There’s an offense and defense component that makes it super engaging. Hopefully it’s keeping us sharp... even though it doesn’t feel like it mid-perimenopause. We also managed a few pickleball games in between the weather lows.

Finally, I applied to Survivor again. This is application number seven. It’s my ultimate dream and adventure. Please cross your fingers, pray, or do whatever it is you do to help make things happen. I’ve applied online six times, and once I even flew to Ohio for 24-hours for a casting call.

Stay tuned for our first camping trip in two weekends — we’ll be celebrating Easter with nature. 🌿

FINALLY beat Krissy at Canasta,
Anne
