Vacationing vs Adventuring

Krissy and I got back from Mexico about a week ago and have been slowly settling back into the rhythm of daily life (work, laundry, lawn care, house work and doggie snuggles). We stayed at an all-inclusive resort — you know the kind: endless drinks, food, entertainment, and absolutely zero thinking required.

Now, if you’ve been following us for a bit, this probably feels like a pretty big departure from our usual style. You’re not wrong. But it’s not the whole story.

Many years ago, Krissy and I made a travel pact of sorts: every year, we plan two big trips — one adventure, and one true vacation.

Adventure trips are our jam. They’re the ones where we hit the road, and spend our days biking, hiking, exploring, learning, and being deeply rooted in the earth. Those are the kinds of trips this blog will mostly focus on, especially as we count down to full-time RV life in just a three years.

But today? Let’s talk about the other kind of trip: the do-nothing-and-love-it kind.

Vacation trips — usually a cruise or an all-inclusive resort — are all about rest. We sleep in, take naps, play cards for hours (Krissy is currently on an infuriating winning streak), read in the sun, eat ridiculous amounts of food, and truly reconnect. There’s something magical about removing all the noise and just being together, without the constant pull of work or responsibilities.

And I’ll be honest with you — I am extremely frugal. Like, skip-the-guac, skip-the-drink, skip-the-haircut level frugal. But with these types of trips? I don’t even have to think about money. Everything’s included, so I get to fully relax — and Krissy gets a vacation from hearing me talk about the cost of everything. 😅

If you’re wired like me, hear this: sometimes, the all-inclusive is the cheaper and more freeing way to go. It lets you be present without keeping a running tab in your head.

Want to know what we pack for these kinds of trips? Check out our YouTube channel, Lez Go Together — we’ve got two episodes about packing for vacations: one about the things to remember when cruising, and one for Mexico-style all-inclusives.

Whether you’re out adventuring or vacationing — make it fun, make it yours, and make it count.
